Many schools across America celebrated (or will be soon) the 100th day of school.
This is a classic school tradition that teachers use as teachable opportunities and lessons in a celebratory fashion to increase student engagement. Teachers create numerous lesson plans revolving around the one-hundred concept such as:
- Asking students to imagine themselves at 100 years old
- Researching what life was like 100 years ago
- Counting 100 snacks, coins, or whatever interesting item a teacher can imagine
- Doing exercises in the counts of 100
- Dressing up as if students were 100 years old
There are countless ways to incorporate the 100-day celebration into lessons, but it is the last one on my list that leads to my next edition of Funny Story.
At my school, many students dressed as if they were 100.
After looking around and enjoying all the “old people” at our school, this led Johnny to ask a good question:
Do teachers get to dress up for the 100th day of school celebration?
I thought this was quite thoughtful of this young 1st grader. He wanted his teachers to be able to enjoy the fun too, right?
Naw!
Johnny proceeded to say, “But y’all don’t have to. Teachers are already 100 years old!”
Well, thanks Johnny.
If that be the case though, we are some good looking 100-year-olds.
To borrow the lingo of my high school students, I’m just trying to keep it 100.

Have a blessed week!
