What We Do When We Fail

What we do when we fail is completely different from person to person.

Some quit. Some continue doing the same thing. Others try to learn and get better.

While my blog has not felt like a failure, it certainly has not met my expectations. So, I’m trying new things.

“You never know what you can do until you try, and very few try unless they have to.” – C.S. Lewis

So, What’s Coming?

In the coming weeks, I will be posting examples of student writing.

Why would I do this?

Kelly Gallagher, as well as many other notable educators, advocate using models of writing in your teaching of your youthful writers.

In the past, I know I’ve looked for good examples to show my students when trying to show them new ways to compose their thoughts.

In that light, I hope educators will be able to come here and find examples that they may use with their aspiring writers to help them improve.

I love teaching writing. I especially love watching young minds process – whether that be a small child finding their way through a puzzle, constructing something with their legos, or finding a way to articulate their thoughts.

Many of us likely know the struggle of looking for writing tasks and writing examples to use in our classrooms. I’m hoping this website will become a place where those teachers will be able to come and give their students inspiration to write in new and interesting ways.

Failure Is Not An Option

My bulletin board for years was “Failure is not an option.” I believed in this motto in a multitude of ways.

I was inspired by my father who worked for NASA for years. I believe that what we do when we fail determines everything about us and that we can find new ways to overcome most obstacles in our way. And, I believe in pulling ourselves up “by our bootstraps” and overcoming life’s challenges.

Therefore, I hope this website finds a new outlet, a new purpose, and inspires educators and students in new ways.

Conclusion

I hope the future of this blog can help educators and become a source or helpful resources for teachers everywhere to realize what we do when we fail is to not give up but find a new way to reach the young minds put before us.
